It feels like they had a mediocre “CGI Animal.and Human Friend” movie in the bag before the fan backlash over how ugly Sonic looked. They corrected some bits but it was too much to just dump the medicare core.
The best take away I have from this film, which feels like a made for TV movie plot on a blockbuster CGI budget is that hopefully they learned their lesson and the sequel will lean harder on the “Sonic Lore.”
There is a brief glipse of a proper “Sonic World” and it’s really gorgeous and we kind of need more of that and less…. Sonic rides in a pickup, for half the movie.
Also “Donut Lord” ended up coming off as more clever than expected when I realized that duuuh, Donuts are Rings.
